Missouri weekly medical cannabis sales top $2M
Cumulative sales exceed $22 million as patient enrollment grows, store openings continue
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – With patient enrollment approaching six figures and more retail outlets and production facilities opening by the day, weekly medical marijuana sales in Missouri have now topped the $2 million mark.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports cumulative medical cannabis sales of $22.2 million statewide through Friday, March 19.
That’s a $2.4 million increase over the previous week, following four consecutive weeks of sales approaching but not eclipsing the $2 million threshold.
“These encouraging sales figures come as no surprise — but are all the more impressive in a pandemic-stricken economy,” said Andrew Mullins, executive director of MoCannTrade (The Missouri Medical Cannabis Trade Association). “Our growing industry is not only improving the health and well-being of Missouri patients but also creating thousands of new jobs while funneling millions in new and needed tax revenue to the state.”
Medical cannabis sales in Missouri include an additional 4 percent sales tax dedicated to the health and care of military veterans.
As of Monday, more than 90,000 patients and caregivers have received their state-approved medical cannabis cards, with thousands more applications pending. Additionally, 2,238 agent identification cards issued so far to medical cannabis industry employees.
Under Article IX of the state Constitution, Missouri residents with cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, and 20 other qualifying conditions can purchase or cultivate medical cannabis with a physician’s certification. The law also provides physicians with the discretion to certify patients who have other chronic and debilitating medical conditions that could benefit from medical marijuana, and legally protects their right to have such conversations.
