Missouri’s Chief Equity Officer position is officially open

 

On Tuesday, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services began formally accepting applications for the newly created Chief Equity Officer position.

The position, a mandate after the passage of Amendment 3 which legalized adult use marijuana, will be responsible for helping to develop and implement programs and educational materials about marijuana microbusiness licenses. The aim is to inform those who would meet the qualifications to apply of the opportunities available to them as well as offering assistance and resources in the licensing process.

The official posting describes the position as, “an integral part of ensuring the social and economic equity requirements of the new law are fully realized.”

The application period will close on Friday December 9, the Department is constitutionally obligated to fill the position within 60 days of December 8, the effective date of Amendment 3.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of supervisory experience.

A description of duties is outlined below:

  • Communicate program equity initiatives to internal and external partners.
  • Conduct reviews to certify microbusinesses are eligible applicants and in good standing for licensure.
  • Create and promote educational programming detailing licensing process and information regarding available support and resources for individuals applying for microbusiness licensure.
  • Establish targeted technical assistance programming to communities impacted by cannabis prohibition.
  • Compile annual report to the public of compliance activities.
  • Supervise staff.
