Busch taps MMJ industry experience, builds team to bring medical cannabis products to Missouri

A familiar name from this city’s rich brewing legacy is the latest medical cannabis operator to open for business in Missouri.

Adolphus August Busch V, great-great-grandson of the founder of Anheuser-Busch, is carving his own path as chairman and CEO of Teal Cannabis, which holds two of the 89 state licenses to manufacture cannabis edibles, concentrates, vape cartridges, pre-packaged marijuana cigarettes and related products.

Teal’s St. Peters facility is among the 40 of those manufacturing sites to have received state approval to start operations. The company officially entered the St. Louis-area market in late August, and medical cannabis patients across the state will soon be able to purchase Teal Cannabis products, including its HIGH FIVE brand of marijuana edibles.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Busch started his own Colorado cannabis business, ABV Cannabis Co., following his graduation from Colorado State University.

His entrepreneurial journey has been covered in TheStreet, St. Louis magazine, Greenway and more.

Teal’s leadership group also includes:

  • Tim Crook, chief operating officer
  • Steve Grossman, chief financial officer
  • Bernard Heimos, director of cultivation
  • Norwin Heimos, director of construction

More than 140,000 Missouri patients have been approved as medical marijuana cardholders by the state Department of Health and Senior Services. Medical cannabis sales in Missouri include an additional 4% sales tax, with the proceeds dedicated toward veterans’ health and care services.

The department has licensed 349 facilities across the state to cultivate, manufacture, test and dispense medical marijuana. The medical marijuana program, which was approved by 66% of state voters on the November 2018 ballot, has already generated more than $113 million in tax revenue to Missouri through August.
