Job fairs in St. Louis, Kansas City expecting hundreds

As Missouri MMJ Licenses are awarded and business owners get ready to launch, Midwest Canna Expos has created two timely events in STL and KC to connect Employers with Job Seekers ready to work in the Medical Marijuana Industry. The Missouri Cannabis Industry Career Fair provides a forum for connection at the Career Fair EXPO as well as education in the Seminar on Cannabis Industry Employment.

Education sessions cover training and preparation for the myriad career possibilities addressing knowledge and skill requirements as well as resume writing and interviewing tips.  This training and connection between employers and prospective employees come at a critical point, post-licensure when businesses will have an immediate need to operate with a professional and qualified workforce.

Dozens of licensed facility employers, employment firms, and staffing companies will be on hand seeking the brightest talent in Missouri to fill open positions in cultivation, extraction facilities, and retail dispensaries.

There is also a Facility Owner/Employer Breakfast Education Session where HR/Benefits/On-Boarding thought leaders will provide valuable best practices to ensure recruiting, hiring, retention and benefits efforts are efficient and effective.

Employer Table pricing is $500 for participation at one event ($250 for members)  and $750 for a table at both career fairs ($375 for members). Contact [email protected] for information about Sponsorship. To reserve an Employer table use the links below.

Greenway Magazine caught up with Karin Chester, CEO of Midwest Canna Expos and visionary behind the upcoming job fairs in St. Louis on February 1 and Kansas City on February 8.

PATIENTS: Do you have booth space available for the MoCannJobFair+Expo?
CHESTER: There is very limited booth space available. All of our standard booth space is currently sold out and we have a waitlist. We have a few spots on the main expo floor left, but they are all tied to networking events or the women’s networking breakfast sponsorships. There are a few opportunities there that include marketing and branding during the expo, outside of just having a booth space.

Do you have to be a MRB to reserve a booth at the job fair?

Yes and no. Yes, your business needs to be related to the cannabis industry but not necessarily an operator. If you are working in an ancillary business and doing business within the cannabis industry, that is OK too. For example, an insurance agency that deals with insurance for cannabis operators

Does my team have to attend both?

Businesses can reserve a table at either one or both of the career fairs.

How many job seekers should I anticipate meeting? What kinds of applicants will I meet?

We anticipate 300-400 people at the St. Louis event in between 250 and 325 people in Kansas City.

What should I bring?

Employers who purchase a tablespace for the career fair will get a 6-foot table with two chairs and a trashcan. They can bring pop-up banners, swag, information about the company and be prepared to talk about the positions they will be hiring for. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity to make contact with the people who will be working in the industry. The cannabis industry typically has a high turn over rate so collecting a large number of resumes can be meaningful. This is especially true for dispensary operators.

Are there any opportunities beyond having a booth for the job fair?

Employers participating in the career fair are also invited to our morning networking breakfast that is strictly for Employers. Staffed Up and Adaptive HR will be on hand to talk to employers about human resources and staffing issues. In addition, all employers participating in the job fair will receive a resume packet from all career fair attendees who purchased the resume distribution service option.
