Jefferson City testing lab hopeful brings California experience

CanMedLabs, based in Irvine, California, has ownership with Missouri roots – and they’re hoping to expand to the state.

Part-owner and Missouri native, Ronald Stephen Shaw of St. Louis said, “it was only natural for CanMedLabs to apply and be part of the opportunity of this emerging industry.”

“CanMedLabs is a fully licensed laboratory that is currently operating in the state of California for a few years,” Shaw said. “The testing laboratory conducts state-required comprehensive testing and analysis for cannabis and cannabis-related products. Furthermore, CanMedLabs is extremely familiar with the necessary ISO Accreditation procedures and maintain such standards as. CanMedLabs, precedency overall as a testing facility is to ensure the safety of patients of the consumption of medical cannabis products.

“So, as far as experience goes we have the experience from one of the highly regulated, ever-evolving growth market of the cannabis industry.  So, for that reason, we would like to expand our expertise and set the standards in the medical cannabis industry in my home state of Missouri.”

Their operation gives a clue to what testing may be like in Missouri. In California, CanMedLabs offers testing and analysis for potency, terpenes, residual solvents, and pesticide and chemical residue, among others. A selling point of the lab is the availability of fast, 48-hour turnaround times for tests.

CanMedLabs is comprised of a group of toxicology professionals they say possess collective subject matter expertise, best practices, relevant knowledge in technology and thought leadership in behavioral health sciences. This team has been quick to learn how to compete and thrive in a highly regulated, ever-evolving growth market of cannabis analytical testing services.

Through the research assessment of where and how to rapidly penetrate the cannabis industry, the team has identified the unique business value of a decade’s worth of experience in a relevant industry to exploit known business model issues. The group accomplishes this by attaching their knowledge as a cannabis industry solution.

CanMedLab’s application is for a facility in Jefferson City. They are one of 17 applicants for a testing facility license. The state has said it will be granting 10 testing facility licenses, beyond the constitutionally required 2.
